Lawn edging
Every time I mow, I edge along the sidewalk and the driveway. It's part of the visit on both plans, not an extra.
What edging is
Mowing cuts the top of the grass. Edging cuts the side, right where the lawn meets the concrete. I run the edger along the sidewalk and the driveway so the grass stops at the concrete instead of growing out over it.
Why it matters here
Bermuda and St. Augustine both spread sideways with runners. Bermuda especially will grow straight across a sidewalk if you let it. If the edge gets cut every visit, it stays easy to keep. If it goes a whole summer without, the grass builds up a thick lip over the concrete and the walk starts looking narrower than it is.
What I edge
- The sidewalk
- The driveway
Whatever the edger throws onto the concrete gets cleaned up when I blow off at the end.
Before mowing day
If hoses or decorations sit right along the sidewalk or driveway, pull them back a little so I can get a clean line.
Mowing only. This is edging along concrete. I don't put in landscape borders, cut new bed lines, or lay stone or metal edging.
Questions
All questionsDoes edging cost extra?
No. It's part of every visit. The price is based on yard size and how often you want it mowed.
Is edging the same as trimming?
No. Edging is the straight line along concrete. Trimming is the grass along fences, around trees and around beds. You get both every visit.
