String trimming
The mower can't get everywhere. I trim along fences, around trees and around beds on every visit, on both plans.
Where I trim
- Along fence lines
- Around tree trunks
- Around flower beds and mulch beds
Anything the mower can't get close to gets cut down to match the rest of the lawn.
Fences
Most backyards around here are fenced, so there's a lot of fence line. Bermuda and St. Augustine will grow right up against it. A freshly mowed yard with tall grass along the fence still looks unfinished, so the fence line gets done every time.
If the gate is locked, leave it open on mowing day or text me the code so I can get to the backyard.
Trees
Trimmer line can scrape bark, and young trees with thin bark are the easiest to hurt. A small ring of mulch around the base of a young tree keeps the grass back from the trunk, so there's less to trim right up against it.
Mowing only. This is trimming grass. I don't trim hedges or shrubs, prune trees, or weed beds.
Questions
Do you trim hedges or bushes?
No, just grass. Hedges, shrubs, tree pruning and weeding beds are outside what I do.
Is trimming part of the every other week plan?
Yes. Both plans get the same visit. The only difference is how often.
What about my dog?
Keep dogs inside on mowing day and make sure I can get through the gate.
